The overall objective of the project is to contribute to the development of the intellectual property system in Ukraine and thus to contribute to the meeting by Ukraine of the WTO TRIPS agreement. With the aim of creating a suitable environment for effective enforcement of intellectual property rights in Ukraine in order to reduce counterfeiting and piracy, the purpose of the project is to contribute to the achieving of an adequate and timely upgrading and harmonisation of the Ukrainian intellectual and property rights as well as to a strengthening of implementing authorities. The main beneficiary institution in the Ukraine that is involved in the project is the State Department of Intellectual Property (SDIP/ www.sdip.gov.ua), a state administrative body, which covers two implementing state organisations:
